POLUCION Y RAZA

The making of Polucion

Polucion y Raza (Action drawings 2 & 3 ) will be on display through the month of October at Talento Bilingue De Houston's BRWN PLNT exhibition. The show addresses environmental issues such as the poor quality of air in our city and the need to search for alternative sources of energy. Go check it out if you have a chance, TBH 333 S. Jensen Dr.

"Polucion" was done in collaboration with unknown drivers in the parking lot of HCC Northline, employing the tires of their vehicles as mark making tools.

"Raza" was done in collaboration with students of my foundation drawing class. They were invited to use the soles of their shoes as mark making tools using clay.

Action Drawing 1

For this experimental piece, students of my Foundation Drawing 2 class at HCC were invited to participate by walking and dancing over paper to create a drawing with paint. Unfortunately, students from another class came in and tracked the paint all over the halls and the restrooms. The custodians were not happy, my instructor and I had to clean it up, but it was fun.

This drawing was inspired by an exercise within our class that encouraged us to use non conventional mark making tools. I became interested in using the soles of our shoes. Seeing the prints that we choose to leave on the ground as a form of identity. This piece intends to make a portrait of a diverse group of students in a drawing class, seen from below, and to bring a performative aspect to drawing.
